So the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them from his presence. Only the tribe of Judah was left. (2 Kings 17:18)
After many years of warning, God uses the pagan nation of Assyria to punish the northern Kingdom of Israel. Shalmaneser invades, the best and brightest in the land are deported, and Israel as a nation is no more. The Kingdom of Judah is warned that a similar judgment awaits them if they do not repent.
